ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY
"For all the saints, who from their labors rest...."
We sing of the saints who have gone before us. How about our LIVING SAINTS?
In preparation for the celebration of All Saints on November 5th, we are invited to think about the living saints who are special to us. They may be people we know or people who live anywhere in this world.
Then...each of us is encouraged to bring to the services on November 5th a picture of one of our own special living saints. It can be a photo, newspaper or magazine picture, or downloaded fron the Internet. These will be affixed to the front of the Altar (with doublesided tape so we don't harm your photos). There will also be a table set up for any framed photos.
Parents and grandparents: Father Thomas will ask the children during the services who or what they think a saint is. Please help your children select a picture of a living saint and ask them why they think that person is a saint.
The children will also be ringing handbells at the 10:30 am service!
November 12th...On that Sunday, we will have an activity in which we can ALL take part, both children and adults. We will be creating and flying Prayer Flags for Peace.
Prayer flags, found in many parts of the Himalayas are an important part of Tibetan Buddhist culture. These flags were first created in India.
Contrary to popular belief, prayer flags do not carry prayers to gods, but rather are used to promote peach strength, compassion and wisdom. The wind is said to carry these messages from the flags to all people.
So, on November 12th, come prepared to send your message of peace, compassion and wisdom to our brothers and sisters in our troubled and beleaguered world.
All supplies will be provided, just bring your message. The flags will be 'hung' on the front lawn area of church!
THANKSGIVING EVE SERVICE
On Wednesday, November 22nd, Christ Church will join with several area Faith Communities for a Thanksgiving Eve Service to be held at St. Andrew's Church (in Burt) at 7 pm. The service will include the Eucharist and the beautiful music of a combined choir.
The celebration will continue with coffee and dessert afterward. Anyone who would like to bring a pie to the service is asked to sign the sheet posted on the double doors on the Fellowship Hall or contact Joyce in the office (433-9229).
It is hoped that no one will miss this special service because of transportation concerns. Anyone who would like to offer rides to folks who would appreciate a ride from the Christ Church parking lot to the St. Andrew's Church and back again...AND...anyone wishing to "hop in" with someone, please sign up on the respective sheets posted on the double doors or contact Joyce. We ask that drivers and riders sign up by sunday, November 19th so that we may organize the ride sharing.
St. Andrew's Church is located at 2239 West Creek Rd. in Burt. There is a large parking lot and the church is handicap accessible.
